Bob Marley Reggae superstar but little known Jewish believer in Jesus

marleyPicture Bob Marley and as well as musician, hes thought of as the biggest fan of cannabis use and peace loving hippy from the Caribbean.

According to this link, Bob’s father was of Jewish descent.   Of course, its generally accepted you are only officially Jewish if its through you mother’s side, but hey that just a rabbinical law….

If like me you grew up liking reggae music, you will notice a lot of the LPs from 1970s have stars of David and Jewish type themes.

This because of the Rastafarian faith is an off shoot of Judaism (using star of David and Lion of the tribe of Judah, and referring to God as “Jah”) and elements of Christianity.    Don’t be fooled though.   This group tells its followers that Ethiopia is Zion and the Messiah is Hillie Sallasie, something that this man, the leader of Ethiopia denies himself of being a deity.   Sallasie is an actual follower of Christ.

In Bob’s final year and with terminal cancer he accepted Christ as his Lord and saviour.

I’d probably disagree that Bob was a believer in 1977.   I have his Babylon by Bus album which was a live concert in 1978.   The record starts off with a prayer in a Rastafarian style.

Here’s another source that shows his death being closer to his 1981 death.

I think its heartwarming that one of the world’s influential musicians found the Lord Jesus, even though he was famous for a different type of lifestyle.   Reggae is hugely popular in Israel and I’d love to know how well his whole story was known there.

I’ll leave you with a Hebrew cover of “redemption song” by Jerusalem violinist and singer Michael Greilsammer.

Mysterious Messiah street in Jerusalem

Anyone know the story behind this street?

IMG_20150719_130021672_HDR

Fancy a walk down there yourself?

You can see it here:

Notice the English translation of Messiah is different here again, English translations of Hebrew words can be different on street signs on different ends of one street in Israel.

This street is round the corner from the Pavilion shopping mall which has King of Kings Jerusalem congregation.   My church for most of the 4 years I spent in Israel.

My dinner with Canon Andrew White in Jerusalem

I met up with a friend of mine who asked me if I wanted to meet with her as she was off to see the legendary Canon Andrew White, the vicar of Baghdad.  So it was a pleasure to do this one one evening, and met with a few other British and American people involved with various different types of ministry in the middle east.

canon andrewAndrew has a knack for building relationships with Jews, Muslims and Christians from all over.   He spends a lot of time in Jordan these days with Arab Christians escaping with their lives from Iraq and Syria which are getting taken over by Islamic State.

A quick van ride with his Aramaic Christian driver, and we were on the Mount of Olives in the Seven Arches Hotel with its original 1970s interior 🙂

This piece of rock is very very very hot……

This was a type of cooking I have never seen before.   I don’t know if this is a middle east idea.   The Arab staff of this hotel brought out these dense concrete blocks with a piece of steak on it.    The block is baked in an oven and get so extremely hot, it aids cooking the steak, so you finish it off be rotating your piece of meat to the desired cooking time.

This was a really nice unexpected surprise during my two week trip in July 2015.

What happens when a country threaten Israel with war?

I’ve chosen these stories not from Christian media, or the Israel/middle east media just to make a point I’m not trying go OTT on judgement day/end times type themes.

Meteors and 70+ degree weather in Iran just after they announce they want to destroy Israel?

But these stories are beyond normal rational explanation.

iran meteor

In the light of Iran threatening Israel with annihilation, much of western world too uninterested/cowardly to stop them (Thankyou Canada for being a true friend to Israel)   Why would Iran have meteors and extreme hot weather right now?

The extreme heat is affecting the rest of the middle east right now.    I know what it feels like with overwhelming intense heat out in Israel when I was there and its not fun I tell you.    I personally think this is a blessing right now.  Why?  With the tragic death of a Palestinian child and a woman in a gay event, there is less of chance of people wanting to go out to take revenge if the extreme heat makes people want to stay indoors.

Genesis 12 : 1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.  2“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”b

Jewish people are eagerly awaiting Moshiach (Messiah) in Israel and steering clear of the Chabad agenda

These yellow flags are around a lot these days

IMG_20150719_112851958

DSCF8545This (unknown) political graffiti message in Jerusalem has been changed by someone to include the Hebrew word משיח which is Moshiach or Messiah, the Chabad Lubavitch movement seem to want to aggressively push their own Messiah, a deceased New York Rabbi called Menachem Mendel Schneerson.    These posters get put up all over the place.

DSCF8640

Posters put up in random places of the false Messiah who was just an ordinary Rabbi.

He’s not the Messiah!   Hes dead!   He was born in the Ukraine and died in New York in 1994 and never visited Israel even once!

Micah 5 : 2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

This part of the Tanakh shows the evidence the Messiah must come from Israel, more specifically Bethlehem, I’ve emphasised the words here.

Many Jews and even some Christians think Chabad are a good role model for Jewish people, I think they are should be avoided.

This image was in a toy shop.

This poster is from the same artist was in a fast food joint is not too far wrong.

Its great to see Jewish people really wanting to see their Lord and Saviour, I believe he is ישוע המושיח / Yeshua HaMoshiach (aka Jesus Christ), and revival in Israel is coming soon.

What are Palestinians teaching their children today?

Disturbing items seen in Muslim quarter part of Jerusalem. NB; These are not pics off the internet, I took these myself.  In one case some local teenagers were playing with a toy gun and aimed it and Jewish passers by. IMG_20150712_140645189 IMG_20150712_140651710 The toy guns are made in China, but have Arabic writing and images of Muslim gunmen on them. IMG_20150712_140916521 IMG_20150714_102943912_HDRThere are no toy guns in the Jewish toy shops in Israel.   I saw this interesting picture in a toy shop, I’ll explain more later on this.

Moshiach is the Hebrew word for Messiah. You can argue that army service is mandatory for Israeli Jews (Arabs, Bedouins, Druze, Armenians and other ethnic groups in Israel can also join as well but are optional) and they are required to carry their guns when not on duty.

All Israelis I know join the army out of duty and learn many valuable skills during then, but really don’t want to go to war, but see a need to defend their nation from enemies on several directions.

Please pray for Arab children in Israel, that they would not be taught hate and violence.

NB, I was shocked to hear a Palestinian child died in a house fire a couple of days ago which was done deliberately with Hebrew graffiti (Price tag message) was left nearby.    Actual attacks on Arab families and children by extremist Jews can happen but happen extremely rarely.  I know the Israel government are determined to find and punish who was responsible for this, and the other child of the family is being treated in hospital.   Please pray this won’t mean more revenge attacks to anyone.
