Anyone know the story behind this street?
Fancy a walk down there yourself?
You can see it here:
Notice the English translation of Messiah is different here again, English translations of Hebrew words can be different on street signs on different ends of one street in Israel.
This street is round the corner from the Pavilion shopping mall which has King of Kings Jerusalem congregation. My church for most of the 4 years I spent in Israel.
I met up with a friend of mine who asked me if I wanted to meet with her as she was off to see the legendary Canon Andrew White, the vicar of Baghdad. So it was a pleasure to do this one one evening, and met with a few other British and American people involved with various different types of ministry in the middle east.
Andrew has a knack for building relationships with Jews, Muslims and Christians from all over. He spends a lot of time in Jordan these days with Arab Christians escaping with their lives from Iraq and Syria which are getting taken over by Islamic State.
A quick van ride with his Aramaic Christian driver, and we were on the Mount of Olives in the Seven Arches Hotel with its original 1970s interior 🙂
This piece of rock is very very very hot……
This was a type of cooking I have never seen before. I don’t know if this is a middle east idea. The Arab staff of this hotel brought out these dense concrete blocks with a piece of steak on it. The block is baked in an oven and get so extremely hot, it aids cooking the steak, so you finish it off be rotating your piece of meat to the desired cooking time.
This was a really nice unexpected surprise during my two week trip in July 2015.
I’ve chosen these stories not from Christian media, or the Israel/middle east media just to make a point I’m not trying go OTT on judgement day/end times type themes.
Meteors and 70+ degree weather in Iran just after they announce they want to destroy Israel?
But these stories are beyond normal rational explanation.
http://time.com/3981478/iran-heatwave-bandar-mahsahr/
In the light of Iran threatening Israel with annihilation, much of western world too uninterested/cowardly to stop them (Thankyou Canada for being a true friend to Israel) Why would Iran have meteors and extreme hot weather right now?
The extreme heat is affecting the rest of the middle east right now. I know what it feels like with overwhelming intense heat out in Israel when I was there and its not fun I tell you. I personally think this is a blessing right now. Why? With the tragic death of a Palestinian child and a woman in a gay event, there is less of chance of people wanting to go out to take revenge if the extreme heat makes people want to stay indoors.
Genesis 12 : 1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”b
These yellow flags are around a lot these days
This (unknown) political graffiti message in Jerusalem has been changed by someone to include the Hebrew word משיח which is Moshiach or Messiah, the Chabad Lubavitch movement seem to want to aggressively push their own Messiah, a deceased New York Rabbi called Menachem Mendel Schneerson. These posters get put up all over the place.
He’s not the Messiah! Hes dead! He was born in the Ukraine and died in New York in 1994 and never visited Israel even once!
Micah 5 : 2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
This part of the Tanakh shows the evidence the Messiah must come from Israel, more specifically Bethlehem, I’ve emphasised the words here.
Many Jews and even some Christians think Chabad are a good role model for Jewish people, I think they are should be avoided.
This image was in a toy shop.
This poster is from the same artist was in a fast food joint is not too far wrong.
Its great to see Jewish people really wanting to see their Lord and Saviour, I believe he is ישוע המושיח / Yeshua HaMoshiach (aka Jesus Christ), and revival in Israel is coming soon.
Disturbing items seen in Muslim quarter part of Jerusalem. NB; These are not pics off the internet, I took these myself. In one case some local teenagers were playing with a toy gun and aimed it and Jewish passers by.
The toy guns are made in China, but have Arabic writing and images of Muslim gunmen on them.
There are no toy guns in the Jewish toy shops in Israel. I saw this interesting picture in a toy shop, I’ll explain more later on this.
Moshiach is the Hebrew word for Messiah. You can argue that army service is mandatory for Israeli Jews (Arabs, Bedouins, Druze, Armenians and other ethnic groups in Israel can also join as well but are optional) and they are required to carry their guns when not on duty.
All Israelis I know join the army out of duty and learn many valuable skills during then, but really don’t want to go to war, but see a need to defend their nation from enemies on several directions.
Please pray for Arab children in Israel, that they would not be taught hate and violence.
NB, I was shocked to hear a Palestinian child died in a house fire a couple of days ago which was done deliberately with Hebrew graffiti (Price tag message) was left nearby. Actual attacks on Arab families and children by extremist Jews can happen but happen extremely rarely. I know the Israel government are determined to find and punish who was responsible for this, and the other child of the family is being treated in hospital. Please pray this won’t mean more revenge attacks to anyone.

During my two week break in Israel, I got the opportunity to relax on my friend’s balcony and read this book I got a few weeks ago.
It took me a long time to find this book in the UK, eventually, it resurfaced on Amazon UK after being out of stock for a while.
The story of John Pex a Dutchman and his wife Judy who is an American Jew traveled around as hippies and found Jesus and later founded a hostel in Eilat, the far-off obscure city at the very bottom of Israel past 5 hours of desert, which as Judy puts in, is to Israel what Alaska and Hawaii is to the US.
The Pexes are really some of the most pioneering members of the modern Messianic Jewish community of Israel. As well bring Jewish and Arab people to the Lord, they have shared the gospel to African immigrants and to construction workers from Romania and China that built the modern hotels that have transformed Eilat into a busy Red Sea resort for vacationers. A few people who accepted Jesus in the book I now recognise as leaders of congregations now.
The hostel itself has a welcoming atmosphere and bunk rooms, and an outside seating area, on Fridays they do a Shabbat service with food, and praise and worship in English Hebrew, Spanish and Russian songs.
I’ve stayed here twice now and love this place and the people there. Regardless if you are Jewish, Christian or not at all religious but visiting this city especially if you are about to pop over to Egypt or Jordan which are so close by, I would highly recommend this place.
If you have stayed here, or would just love to hear how the gospel has been brought to Jewish people in Israel so effectively I would get this book. I would recommend to the authors if you can find more places to stock this book, it would be better if I could buy it from a retailer in Israel run by believers 🙂
I started writing this particular blog article in 2012 but never finished it – since then much has happened, with Islamic terror and harassment towards Jews in France earlier this year.
Interesting article on big interest in Aliyah (immigration to Israel) on the excellent Elder of Ziyon blog today: http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2012/05/french-jews-interested-in-aliyah.html
There was a wave of people coming out of Russia and the ex-Soviet states, the US, seeing as France has the large number of Jews and Muslims in Western Europe, its logical there will be new immigrants soon.
France has about 600,000 Jews. On this year’s trip (July 2015) I saw a lot of construction happening ready for an expanding population and different friends of mine have heard more French being spoken in the last year. Exciting times I think.
Not all the French Jews may move to Israel, I think some have already left for UK, US and Canada. I think the Israel government should hire a exhibition centre in France and set up a dedicated event with stands and people speaking to really sell the idea of aliyah for French Jews.

This shop I saw in Jerusalem has Tanakhs (jewish Old Testaments) and Jewish books and Judaica in French.

Note: This collection of blog articles isn’t criticism of Judaism or Jewish people. These series of article tackle the “Hebrew Roots” movement of teaching of Jewish practices and their relations to Jesus/Yeshua aimed at a Christian audience and how many groups/congregations/ministries can miss the important concept of the New Covenant and often point believers to a erroneous message. Please start from the first article if you are new here.
For anyone in the system, you need to pray for them a lot, and show lots of grace. This is because from this legalism-centred movement, grace may be a foreign concept. When you are able to demonstrate grace to them, that will give them a better understanding of Christ’s love for them.
With Facebook and other social media, someone who posts memes of particular divisive and unhelpful images, you can challenge them in love, quite frequently they may get hostile. Consider inviting them in to ‘Like’ pages of good quality teaching that would be beneficial to their needs.
But of course, pray for them.
Facebook and forums and blogging often leads to fall outs between people, this is VERY common in the Hebrew Roots/Messianic movement. I suggest using the phone to resolve misunderstandings.
The bible has one specific book against legalism and problems seen in the Hyper Hebrew Roots movement, do you know what it is?
Its the book of Galatians. The whole thing is there to challenge legalism.
What has 4 years living in Israel taught me?
I prefer fellowship with a mixed groups of peoples. Sabra Israelis, Olim (immigrants to Israel), Russian believers, Arab believers who love Israel, Armenian Christians (there is a community of them in Jerusalem’s old city) as well as other foreign Christians who are in Israel to study or volunteer and love and support the people there.
I fellowship with people who have different ideas on things, and we will disagree on some things. I had a bible study with two Messianic Jewish leaders in Israel one who has a huge collection of Christmas decorations during December and one that couldn’t stand Christmas, but they two got on great.
Sometimes non believing Jewish people are fascinated by Christianity, even the manmade added bits like Christmas and Easter, so – here is your chance to really shine and tell them the gospel!!!
Ironically I once worked for an Israeli hitech company, I worked for the R&D centre in UK. During Easter, we got a custom made easter egg with the company logo on!! No other employer has given me something like this!!
Whilst I don’t pretend them to be perfect, Messianic Jewish people from Israel tend to be the ones I have the biggest respect for regarding Jewish-centric ministries.
Rather than Orthodox Judaism with Yeshua on top, the Israeli believer congregations tend to be more robust quality Christian teaching with a strong Jewish flavour.

The “Joyfully growing in Grace” blog has good understanding to the Hebrew Roots movement and provides help and scripture setting the foundations of our faith straight, there are stories of those with family in cult groups and those who have left some odd teaching.

Various groups here including Jewish believers in Yeshua look at Hebrew Roots movements. It should be noted that Hebrew Roots groups don’t really have one centralised body they are part of, and often have widely different approaches to theology.
